NEW - Advanced Dog Ownership initiative (ADOi)

ADOi mission is to promote safe, well-managed dogs and responsible owners in every community.

Welcome to the Advanced Dog Ownership Initiative(ADOi) — Orpington and Bromley, Kent

This is a friendly, supportive way to recognise responsible dog ownership through practical and knowledge-based assessment.

You and your dog will take part as a team, demonstrating practical skills and your understanding of welfare, safety and responsible ownership.

1. PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT: Together, you and your dog will demonstrate:

• Safe handling and awareness of your dog's health and wellbeing.

• Moving calmly through doors and gates.

• Returning promptly when called, even with distractions.

• Remaining calm in public and social settings.

• Greeting people calmly and politely.

• Ignoring food, toys and other distractions.

• Entering, exiting and staying safe around a vehicle.

     2. OWNER KNOWLEDGE ASSESSMENT

You’ll also complete a multiple-choice questionnaire covering:

• Dog Welfare

• Dog Behaviour

• Responsible Ownership

• Learning and Training Principles

• Legal Responsibilities

• Public Safety

I love helping local dogs and their owners build confidence and enjoy life together through this initiative.

Come along to a ADOi training session:

• Saturday mornings 9-10 am, £25

• Monday evenings 6:30 to 7:30pm, £25

Book four sessions for £90.

 Willett Recreation Ground, Petts Wood.

When you and your dog feel ready, an external assessor will guide you through the assessment. On successful completion, you’ll receive a certificate. The assessor’s fee is £85.
